Therapist

Susan Neelley, M.A.

Professional and Educational Background

Hello, my name is Susan Neelley, a Washington State Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with 17 years of experience in the mental health field. I have an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from the Seattle School for Theology and Psychology, and I am a Certified Connections Curriculum candidate with Dr. Brené Brown. I am trained in Lifespan Integration using mind/body therapy to address trauma, and I receive ongoing training with Northwest Alliance for Psychoanalytic Study in attachment, trauma and psychoanalysis.

Areas of Specialization

You have made a courageous decision by choosing to nurture a whole-hearted life through therapy: a life that cultivates authenticity, self-compassion, a resilient spirit, gratitude and joy, intuition and trusting faith, creativity, play and rest, calm and stillness, meaningful work, and freedom of expression.

I believe that transformative change does not occur through prescriptive techniques but through the dynamic counselor-client relationship and remaining present to the here and now of your emotions. I hope for you to experience the fullness of what you were hard-wired to do – to experience connection, love, and belonging.

My approach draws from relational interpersonal methods (psychodynamic and attachment theories), mind-body connections (somatic experience), and spirituality (beliefs and worldviews.) Our work together will assist you in cultivating vulnerability, courage, compassion, and connection to help you move toward whole-hearted living.

I enjoy working with adults, older adolescents, couples, and groups needing help with the following types of issues:

  • Trauma
  • Depression/Anxiety
  • Shame (feelings of unworthiness)
  • Grief & Loss
  • Sexual Abuse & Trauma
  • Addictions, Co-Dependence, and Recovery
  • Issues of Identity/Belonging
  • Women’s Issues
