Therapeutic Approach
Rumi wrote, “The wound is the place there the Light enters you.” Yet sometimes our wounds can feel overwhelming, even unbearable. Life experiences can leave deep scars that shape how we move through the world. No matter how hard we try to “get over it” or “move on,” we can feel trapped by fear, worry, or depression. We may find ourselves repeating painful relationship patterns or feeling powerless to make meaningful changes.
But there is hope! Hi! My name is Kristine Nystrom, and I am Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Washington and Oregon. I work in a collaborative, experiential way to help my clients reclaim a sense of control and ownership in their life. Through trauma-informed, holistic psychotherapy, we work together to build awareness of what gets in the way and help to create space for healing, growth, and renewed possibility.
Professional and Educational Background
I received my B.A. in Psychology at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and my M.A in Counseling from Southwestern College in Santa Fe, NM. I am Certified in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and have received post-graduate training in DBT, RO-DBT, TIST, IFS, Attachment theory, and Interpersonal Neurobiology all of which inform how I work.

Personal Information
When I am not in the office, I am usually out exploring the beauty of the Pacific Northwest – hiking and camping with my dog, biking, or tending my garden. I love to read, travel, and learn as I continue to grow and deepen own mindful, healing journey. Music is another big part of my life, and I enjoy singing with several local choirs in the Bellingham area.
