| Professional and Educational Background |
M. Linton Petersen, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, earned his B.A. from WWU in 1984 and his M.S. in Clinical Psychology from Eastern Washington University in 1996. He is currently completing a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Seattle Pacific University while working in private practice and providing clinical consultation for the patients of Madrona Medical Group.
Linton has worked in the mental health field for over 20 years. Before joining Bayside in 1999, he provided counseling services for patients at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Linton’s experience includes working with children, adolescents, adults, and families in both inpatient and outpatient settings. He has particular interests in health psychology and in the treatment of personality disorders.
As a therapist, Linton comes from a developmental psychology perspective, and considers the biopsychosocial approach essential in developing a full clinical assessment. His approach to treatment is client-centered and cognitive-behavioral, utilizing motivational enhancement techniques. Linton believes that therapy is a collaborative effort and that the development of goals with the client is vitally important. He believes in the power of humor as well as respect for the individual.
Linton works with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families needing assistance with the following types of issues:

- Parenting issues and family transitions
- Marital/relationship issues
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Bipolar Disorder
- Personality Disorders
- Medical and health issues
Linton, his wife Karen, and their two children are involved in many community and outdoor activities. Linton especially enjoys basketball, tennis and swimming.
