| Professional and Educational Background |
Jeremiah Schwartz, a Licensed Psychologist, was educated at the University of Rochester and Columbia University, earning a doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 1977. Before joining Bayside in 1990, Jeremiah worked in community mental health, veterans’ programs, and as a school psychologist. He was on staff at the WWU Counseling Center and supervised graduate counseling students.
A former director of an innovative, multi-disciplinary geriatric treatment program, Jeremiah remains active in the treatment of older adults and has offered groups for nursing home residents as well as caregivers of at-risk elderly. He has had extensive post-graduate training in issues of aging and life transition, grief and loss, and coping with disability. He has also completed training programs in Biofeedback and stress management, EMDR, Thought Field Therapy, and brief solution-focused therapies.
As a therapist, Jeremiah supports and encourages his clients to explore their relationships, experiences, concerns, and goals to enhance self-acceptance, personal effectiveness, and healing. His approach is client-centered, supportive, and collaborative with an active emphasis on symptom relief, effective problem solving, and personal growth.
Jeremiah works with adults, elders, couples, and families who are experiencing distress in coping with the following types of issues:

- Recovering from addictions
Jeremiah has lived for many years in Whatcom County, where he has helped raise two daughters. He enjoys outdoor activities, including hiking, camping, and biking. In his spare time he likes to read, practice tai chi, and tune his banjo.
